Need a new TV but where to buy

I have been eyeing up the new sony 40W5500 for a while and intended to save for it. It was going to be part of the crimbo fund. BUT our current tv has started to go on the blink with green and purple blotches. It will be ok till 1st week of July (thats where we have a week off so could take delivery of a new tv) BUT I dont know where to buy it from
I have gone on find dvd - find electricals and there cheapest is from electricals direct. But I havent read good things about their customer service.Another option which isnt that much more is Dixons.
Both have a "dont pay for 12 months" option, which given my lack of saving, isnt a bad idea. What do you think on that? I dont really want finance that will result in interest
I had wanted to buy it from a store, somewhere to go if it breaks. But that means an extra £200 odd, less the finance, and really these days you dont go back to the store you ring their customer services, hows that different from the internet stores?
To add I am getting the 5 year extended warrenty, opinions?
And am getting the BOSE 321 home cinima to go with at £750. Any idea where I can get the best deal on this? As they only sell in stores I cant price search from the comfort of my chair.
Thanks for all answers you can give.

Richer Sounds have it for £849 with a 12 month guarantee or £934 with a 5 year guarantee:

You don't say what the cheapest price you found was, so I don't know how that compares.
As for the Bose 321, it seems like an expensive waste of money. It's waaaaay over-priced, has very limited connectivity options, it's not real surround sound, and in my opinion their stuff doesn't even sound that great anyway. I'm sure you could get something much better for less if you shopped around. For that price, I would be looking for an A/V receiver and a full set of speakers.0 -

The cheapest was about £810 but thats at digital direct and I didnt like the idea of using them. So that richards sounds great. Thanks!
Great info on the Bose. I did listen in store and it did sound fab, but the price tag was rather, erm, extortionate!
I am looking for a 2.1 home cinima. The room, whilst big is quite full as its modern 2 up 2 down so the living room is supposed to double as a diningroom. Plus with a 14 month old I dont relish the idea of wires.
And suggestions would be great. Also, it doesnt need Blue Ray as we have a PS3. Thanks! The will to save every money saving penny we can0 -

Excellent and 5 year warranty for 10% of the purchase price! Sod the internet buy localy from them I say!!Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -

Well just looking on Richer Sounds, there's the Onkyo LSV501 for £299 or £329 with a 5 year warranty. It was £600 when it was first released, and has an HDMI output (which the Bose 321 lacks), will upscale your DVDs, and can play SACDs and DVD-A disks.
Or the Sony DAV-X1 is a bit of a steal from Play.com for £199 (was £649). It also has an HDMI output, and will play SACDs.0 -
Thanks for this guys. Like a fool it never occured to me that the PS3 could upscale dvd's. its the 80gb version.
Would you rate that? Or would a saperate up-scaling dvd player be better?
And if the PS3 will do that job fine, any ideas on a 2.1 system, sound only? I dont want to spend more then £500 and would prefer no more then £300 but theres wiggle room there. The will to save every money saving penny we can0 -
I imagine there are worse upscalers and there are better; I don't know which category either of the above would fit into.
You can plug your PS3 into either of them though, so you don't have to look for a "sound only" system (which would basically be a hifi).0 -
I was just thinking by dropping the dvd bit I could get a better 2.1 set for less. i.e. the Bose I spoke of to begin with drops from £750 to £400. Still £100 more then I want to pay ideally but gives I good example of what I was thinking.
(suspect I will discuse all this with Richer Sounds when I finally crack in 3 weeks and go and buy all this stuff. I dont think am gonna last till July!)The will to save every money saving penny we can0 -
lol....pop down to your local store, have a listen, and then buy whatever sounds good. You might also check out a few reviews online beforehand so you have a vague idea of what you're after.
I would probably still go for the Onkyo at £299 myself, but it's up to you.0
