Road Tax amount different

I've just received a Road Tax renewal a few days ago stating the renewal cost is £145.
I decided I would renew online as that would be easier - now I find online the price is £150. not £145. I rang up the DVLA to query this and they eventually told me it has gone up in the budget, but the form would already have been printed as they are produced a couple of months in advance.
So - and I think I know the answer to this, but since I'm having such a bad day I just want to check - if I went back to the post office would I get away with paying £145 or will they tell me I have to pay £150?

You'll have to pay the higher price I'm afraid. If I remember correctly, there's usually a little bit on the form that says something like "If the price changes in the budget then the new price will be applicable" - as you said, the forms are pre-printed so are subject to change. The only way to get around it is to buy the tax earlier than you need, before the budget increase - quite complicated to surrender your old one then apply for a new one, plus you loose a couple of weeks worth since they only run to full calendar months. Usually not worth it for the relatively small saving you'll make.0

Thanks - that's what I thought.0
