Black Worm

Hi there
I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem. I have AVG and MS firewall plus a spyware programme running but recently I had a pop up saying my PC was under attack by the black worm virus it then went into what looked like MS site saying I should buy the latest virus programme or my PC would crash never to be seen again.(my words

Something told me that was fishy and so I went into the MS site by inputting the addres on my own. I did a quick scan and all was well, I also did a AVG scan and all clear. These pop ups keep apperaing when I go online (I do have a pop up blocker) and also for the first time ever, some !!!!!! type pop ups keep appearing.

Can anyone tell me what I should be doing and if this is for real ie. are MS trying to scare me into parting with more money or is it a scam to get a virus onto my system?

Have you SP2? Service pack two... and all other updates for XP

Also get this http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ and run.

Turn off system restore first tho.

Black Worm virus was something scheduled to hit the world on Feb 3rd 2006 but I don't think it ever came to much as the AV guys caught it.

This all sounds suspiciously like a goad to make you buy something.

Do Stinger, like Intel suggests, and run through everything in the first 4 posts to this thread ....

If all this fails - and you still get those pop ups etc. - scan with HijackThis and post the resulting logfile report here. We'll give you more specific help for your computer after that.
