I'm not a fan of Argos Direct. Never had problems with Argos the store to date!

I still haven't heard anything. If principle wasn't at stake, I'd give in. Now, I feel I need to step things up. Any suggestions other than writing to the MD?

when ive served customers in the past who needed to be compensated for one thing or another (more than we could finance in-store), i've been given a phone number from argos direct to pass on to the customer.

you could try your local store, or even phone AD yourself, and see if you can get hold of this to try and talk to someone.

persistance is proably going to be the key unfortunately (doesnt give a very good image of the company does it)

if it isnt too inconvient for you to get into store, you could try seeing if one of them having a word on your behalf could help (you've got nothign to lose :D)

Thanks for that. Worth a try I guess. It's a pity it's not more money and then it would be really worthwhile!

    Argos Direct = EVIL

I also work for Argos and have had some terrible problems buying goods from them - once a dishwasher that looked like someone had put a hammer through the front and dented it all completely. They offered me £15 in gift vouchers to keep it and dragged their heels for about a month over exhanging it. My solution was to go into the store and asked the store manager to phone up on my behalf to sort it all out. Worked a treat, I had a grovelling phone call from customer services the next day and a new dishwasher 2 days later!

my suggestion is to always go in store and get them to ring for you (altho god knows why im suggesting this because i cringe every time i see someone walking up to me with a big long AD reciept thats recognisable from a mile off!!)

but anyway, yeah. if you get them to ring for you, it doesn't waste your money (as mentioned earlier, the very long times on hold from a store phone so i dread to think the queue from a home!) plus if the person on the phone needs to talk to you you can still normally use the phone.

Thanks for the tips. I gave them one last call before "going in store" and guess what? They've agreed to pay my half day, and the cheque's "been signed off". No other costs covered mind you, but enough for me to think forget it!

For anyone who wants great customer service, I can't for one minute recommend Argos Direct. But as has been noted above, it's not the same thing as going in store!!

    Thanks everyone.

Couldn't agree more. Call me cynical, but the tactics appear to be there to convince you it's not worth complaining in the future!
