Paid into wrong account name

Anyone know what happens if I make a payment to someone with the wrong account name but correct account number? Does it still get credited or does the money get returned?

I don't think the name is actually required, it is just there as a double check in case of a query.0

i would imagine, unless it is a very large payment it will go through.
if it is a substantial amount and would possibly be looked at manually it may be rejected, otherwise should be fine0 -
If you have the correct Sort Code / Account number (and Ref number where required) ..... that's all it uses. The name is there as a manual check, in case it bounces into a suspense account. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
