Thanks in advance

No experience from your side of the fence, no, but they are a large and well established firm so you should be fine.
Claims for accidental damage TV's are commonly associated with fraud so this is why it is being investigated. Your claim sounds perfectly plausable, but of course people usualy take quite a bit of care with things like TV's so the insurer will want to make sure there is nothing fishy going on.
If you have a genuine claim and have kept the damaged TV then there should be no problem.0 -

THE TV FELL ON THE CAN OF PAINT? Hmmmm.. LOL.
As long as your contents insurance has built in accidental damage, you will be fine. Just understand that your insurance will increase quite alot next year unless you have no claims bonus.Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'
Remember to say thank you to people who help you out!

Crawfords might be a large established company but they are to be handled with caution.
I was in dispute with them for six months over my insurance claim.I made over thirty phone call and wrote about twenty letters to prove my claim.
In the end the Halifax agreed to let another assessor look into my claim. They came to my home .Listened to my story looked at my claim and within twenty four hours had agreed my claim in full!!!!
Just be warned though with your television you will get nowhere near what you paid for it as a payout. I had a flood and my television was broken .I paid £1090 for it three years ago at Currys.I was offered a £388 replacement from Argos!! Needless to say i told them to get lost and im contesting the amount and where i have to get my television from.
So good luck and be prepared.
Keep us posted how things go.:j0 -

To be fair TV values have crashed and a tv costing that 3 years ago is worth nothing like that now.
As for the OP. I assume you still have the damaged tv?0 -

I know tv prices have come down but not that much. I still have the old tv its not going anywhere until my claim is settled.
I hate insurance companies. Why can they not just process your claim.Quickly and honestly. You always have to fight them.Why???0 -
We just broke our TV by accident. TV cost over £1000 2 and half years ago. Looked on ebay. There is a new one going for £500 so I guess that is the value now. Is it worth claiming considering we have excess to pay (cant remember offhand how much) and I guess the home contents insurance premiums will go up next year. Bit of a no win situation really isnt it
(plus all the aggro involved  ) 0 -

In my experience it's because a lot of people employed by them don't understand what's covered and what isn't.
I've had three claims in the last 10 years and two of them involved a bit of arguing before they came around to my way of thinking. I am in the business, so I have more knowledge than the average person, but I do wonder how many people are told something isn't covered when it is, and don't think to challenge it.0 -

This is one of the problems of dealing with an Insurer direct, if they tell you something is not covered or something else thats incorrect you will often just accept it (Unless you have the sense to check with the MSE members). One of the advantages of using a broker is they know the business inside out and will know if the information given is incorrect which is surprisingly often.0 -

What normally happens with a television claim is the Insurers will take the details of your claim and then validate it. If its over a certain value or you do one of the things that prompts them to check the claim which typically are dropping a big tv when you are carrying up/down the stairs (Amazing how often that happens) or funnily enough dropping paint on it they will often look into it further as the OP has discovered.
Normally once they are happy with an electrical goods claim they get their supplier (Typically power play or a national chain) to contact you to work out exactly what you had. They then work out an equivalent replacement (Which often costs substantially less than you paid for it as the technology and cost moves on so quickly) and they arrange for it to either delivered to you home or your collect it from their local store or they sound you a voucher.
There are some situations you can insist on a cash payment or use your own supplier.
It will increase your premium by between 5% and 15% for two or three years and obviously you have to pay your excess. I recommend to my clients they keep their excess low eg £50 so if they want to make a claim they don't have to worry about the excess so much. The saving on an average home insurance premium often means its not worth increasing the excess0
