Water filter cartridges

...ps.......the figures speak ....water bill £15 a year.....electric 1523kWH per annum ...and gas 13500 kWH p.a....there was something on tv last night, of the money spent in sterilizing water by the Water Board, when most of that water is sent down the loo.0

In that case make sure you don't ingest it since just filtering water even through a charcoal filter won't make it safe from a microbial aspect. The commercial filter cartridges which use activated charcoal and contain silver as a bacteriostatic would be much more effective but are still not designed to make water potable.
Disinfection, btw, is not the same as sterilisation and neither boiling, chlorinating, nor UV treatment sterilises water. The amount of money spent on disinfection by the water companies is probably not very high since they use chlorination rather than boiling and this becomes cheaper with economies of scale. It might sound like a lot but they are dealing with a lot of water. I think most of the expense is in maintenence of pipework and so on rather than water treatment itself and I dare say the cost of treatment of water after it has been flushed down the loo is considerably more than it is beforehand!0 -
The presenter of the tv programme was saying of the need to remove banned pesticides, and of course there was the obligatory " this is now safe to drink" glassful of water.
Will be careful not to ingest.
Am on the Solow rate , i.e. no standing charge. You know your onions.0
