Hi,
I'm confused about the hold luggage allowance if I was to book a Thomas Cook flight. This is for a long haul flight, a travel agent implied that you get 15kg included but you can pay £30 to get 20kg.
But having looked for quotes elsewhere, it seems you either get no luggage allowance, or you pay £30 and get 20kg.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks

A sign of the times im afraid.
A guy ive been speaking to on a holiday forum has been quoted £90 for the privilage of an extra 5kgs for TCX to Cuba
In a price sensitive market, the public voted that they would rather save the cash and have less baggage allowance. So now you have an option to purchase an extra 5kgs (be aware though the excess rate for long haul flights is £10 per kg)
However the unfortunate ones who got stung in spain were being charged 9 Euros p/kg over.
Excess baggage is a VERY BIG money earner for the airlines, hence why they try and sting as many people as possible.
Unfortunately its the way ahead with Thomas Cook ..on some Thomson flights you get 20kgs included in the price, but on some you dont. We flew to spain with them last month and we got inflight meals and 20kgs baggage included with no way to remove them.
15kgs is not a lot for a week never mind 2. We made it in turkey by dumping old clothes out there and stocking up new for presents coming back. It sure was a tight squeeze though which i wouldnt ever do again.4 years of entering competitions daily and not a thing won. What a fix.0 -
Got with Jet2, get 22kg plus 10kg hand luggage

Have you actually asked Thomas Cook, they'll be able to tell you
 Think happy & you'll be happy

If Jet2 flew to florida it would be an option for her, sadly their long haul ops are limited to a special New York xmas service from leeds
That bit was more of a joke
Although that is their luggage allowance. Suggesting they contact Thomas Cook was my sensible response

actually I spoke to someone at a branch of Thomas Cook and she didn't really seem to know, and clearly didn't want to reduce the quote by taking off the "optional" luggage allowance
Anyway, from experience, people on forums tend to understand these things better than the average employee0 -
Anyway I don't think my original question was clear - if I don't pay the optional luggage allowance, do I get:
a. 0kg hold luggage, or
b. 15kg hold luggage?
Thanks0 -
Thomas Cook changed the way they charge for luggage at the beginning of April (?). You used to get "free" 15kg and then pay for upgrade to 20kg per person on flight only. Now you get NO luggage allowance - only pay for 20kg. If you don't pay, you only get 5kg hand luggage allowance. It might be different if you are booking a package however - as this might affect it.
Where are you going and is it a package?I am a Travel Agent My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are S0466/3973. Diamond Olly is correct. Your travel agent has not caught up with the changed policy.
'No free hold baggage is provided at time of booking. (This excludes Canada. Premium Cabin Services may differ). Passengers will still receive 5kg of hand luggage free on all flights. A baggage allowance of 20kgs is just £15.00 each way per passenger. So just £30.00 return. Excess baggage will incur an additional charge.'0
