am not sure whether to put a claim in for my son or not, my CAB advisor said to do it but havent really got a diagnosis for something people think he has, he has adhd and was statemented at the age of 5 but it seems he may have aspereges too, the school think he may have this so am going to make an appointment 2moro with doctors.
should i wait for diagnosis or see doctors am not sure.
my CAB advisor thinks i should put in for the adhd alone as that is quite bad, hes been violent towards me and is on a final chance with that as i cannot be beaten on, have just read about asperges and it like reading my son on the internet lol, feel quite bad as all the stuff he does or is could be this, hes 14 and life has been bad since he was very very young he is very different from my other children.
also im on dla myself lrc and hrm am i even able to put in a claim as i have dla myself?
sorry about all the questions
kindest regards

my 14 year old sons have severe adhd, as well as autistic traits, tho we have no formal diagnosis of that.
mine have been in lots trouble cos of the violence, and are in special schools etc, and both get dla, for the adhd alone.for what its worth i now claim dla myself as a result of the depression that caring full time with no respite has caused meenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
ty shaz may just give it a go and also see drs too, have been on dla lcr for depression for awhile and i think if they look at both claims they will see why im depressed lol
my day with my son is nearly 24 hrs a day its hard work, he use to be in a special school but we moved and a secondry school has give him a chance which is great cos in my opinon a school with 50 adhd kids is crazy. but am on edge when he goes school waiting for phone calls to see what hes done, its not been too bad but i did get phone call from P.E teacher to ask if he had asperges as he had just jumped off a 8ft wall in P.E the teacher was quite frightened by this he just did it with no concern for his own saftey but then he is like this safety isnt something he knows if someone said i will give you 5 quid would you jump off a cliff he would although would get the money first hes clever like that :rotfl:hes been banned from the computer today as we had an episode yesterday where at the end of a mouthful he called me a disabled idiot and he was gonna shank me or skank me, still not entirely sure what this is but didnt like the way he said it, today has been a nightmare but have stuck to my guns and even taken the mouse away when i nipped out, hes still awake stomping to go on computer but not a chance lol, am going to phone drs 2moro as it would be nice for a diagnosis and maybe get some help with respite for me.0 -
good luck for tommorrow, and also for the respite, i have 14 year old twins, and been fighting for respite for a very long time. i was even put on the adults at risk register after one son assaulted me, and ended up in trouble with the law. i am lucky tho, that both sons are in great schools, class sizes are at a max of 6 kids to two staff, and they do well most of the time, tho we still get the dredded phone calls.
its weekend and school hols that get me the most, i have the both of them.
please feel free to pm me any time, not sure i have any answes, but am a good listening ear.
shaz xenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
Hello Whitebutterfly,
DLA is awarded not for the disability, but the care a person needs due to their condition.
So DLA can be awarded without any form of diagnosis at all.
I would put on the forms that the school believe he may also have AS, and say you have asked for it to be investigated.
I always think it is a good idea to write to your child's GP and consultant, if they have one, to advise them you are applying for DLA, and also give them an honest warts and all review of all the problems.
If DLA choose to write for further information, they have it to hand.
I would ask the CAB to help fill out the forms, but the more you understand the process, the easier it will be. Here is some advice from a DWP decision maker.

Hi white butterfly,
i don't want to alarm you but to "shank" someone is to stab them and is common terminology among kids who carry knives.
Maybe you need to check that you son is not carrying a knife as some kids feel they need to do. this for their own protection.
I do hope you get the help you need.0
