cheapest way to get family portraits?

I really want some professional family portraits of me bambina and OH. I know these are quite expensive but they're a lovely thing to have on the walls, my parents got a set after each of my siblings were born.
Where would it be cheapest to get them? do you think i could get a good offer with a make over? my little one is 4months and cant sit up by herself, but she can lean on her arms like one of those yoga positions when you are lying down and your arms are straight up against the floor. would a photographer be willing to take pics of a baby so young? would they turn out ok? how many to buy?
how much should i expect to pay?
when i ask my dad he tells me that our pics came from the studio inside sainsburys and then refuses to tell me how much he spent as he doesnt like talking money and says i should be saving it, not spending it :rotfl: which is why there are 6 sets of photos at my parents!

Have you tried Olan Mills?
I've used their Watch Me Grow packages that are £25 for 4 sittings over a year and include a 5 x 7 print. They're always ringing me offering upgraded packages which are fairly reasonably priced.
The photographers seem to be quite well trained for dealing with young children, especially as the watch me grow package is specifically for age birth to 6 years. There's othe packages that they do as well but I haven't tried them.:smileyhea0 -
oh i might try them then. i wondered why i knew that name.... took me a bit but i found a voucher i didnt know i had for half price photoshoot and picture at £7.50! might give them a go before commiting to a watch me grow package.:A Boots Tart :A0

you can quite easily find professional studios who take the portraits for free, what they rely on is you loving the pictures so much you'll pay through the nose for the prints afterwards.
4 months is a little young as they can't sit unaided but they can smile! they would need to be supported or held which would limit the amount of poses, though not necessarily mean they were less lovely.
I would suggest you contact some photographers and ask to see examples of babies this young, or look to find a style of photo you like and ask them to replicate.
Prices can be found out by phone, you'd be looking at upwards of £20 per 8x6 i would guess. The idea being you buy big and pay loads!Wedding Professional0 -
I've had some done of both of mine when they were babies. The poses are limited but they look very cute anyway. I especially like them when they're just in their nappies looking all chubby and good enough to eat :happylovedeecy wrote:4 months is a little young as they can't sit unaided but they can smile! they would need to be supported or held which would limit the amount of poses, though not necessarily mean they were less lovely.:smileyhea0 -
i am SHOCKED at the prices online for prints! £20/30 upwards!
how on earth did my parents end up with 12+ pictures per sitting?! i might try and redeem some offers and get one or two free pictures of just baby. before i go the whole hog and have a big family shoot when baby can sit up by herself.:A Boots Tart :A0 -
does anyone think its worthwhile getting the photo cd? do they take loads and loads of pictures? if its more than 40 it might be worth the £150.....:A Boots Tart :A0

Do you attend mother and toddler groups/playgroups with your child? These were always the cheapest set of photograps I ever used to purchase, the photographer that these places booked once a year, usually around Christmas or Easter. You only got one pose though but I never paid more than £20 for a set of 6 photos (1 large, 2 med, 4 small) and 2 key fobs.Karnam wrote:I really want some professional family portraits of me bambina and OH.
