Car Tax - is it high?

I drive an Audi TT 54 plate 1.8 and just renewed my tax. It was £215! I didnt realise that it was expensive compared to other cars until my partner who has just bought a 3 litre told me he is only paying £170 (or thereabouts). My car is petrol and his is diesel which I understand will make some difference but he thinks that mine seems really high for the size of engine. How do I get this checked? Im assuming its fine and its just that my car a bit older but Im getting a bit concerned as I live in an area with permit parking and have also just found out that they are about to be calculated based on your emissions. Its costing me a fortune to run it in the first place and now seems to be about to cost me even more (also realise Im not doing much for the environment either which isnt good). Ive done a google search but cant find anywhere to check it.... Can anyone help?

On your V5 (registration document) there will be a figure indicating CO2 emissions. Check the table on the link above to see if you have the correct rate - it does seem high for a 1.8 - is it an automatic?

Thanks for that. Its not an automatic. My form says 194g/km under co2 heading. ill check it out. Wish Id never bought the stupid thing!!
