How strict are Thomas Cook with their hand luggage? I am travelling to Florida and they state Your hand baggage must not exceed 5 kg in weight or 43 cm x 28 cm x 23cm in size (including wheels, handles, side pockets etc).
The 5kgs is Ok, but my bag is 45cm x 33cm x 19cms. Will it be OK or should I not risk it

This is probably not going to be very helpful but I had this very same debate with myself last week when deciding if I should buy a new hand luggage bag or not. My bag is 2cm too big in length and 3 in depth but is 4 cm smaller than the maximum width. I've decided to go with it and if they're that picky, i'll just squash the bag in slightly as it isn't hard sided.
Told you it might not be helpful! x

It was useful. I might just do the same. Anyone else tried it with a slightly bigger bag?

I can't see them being too bothered... its weight they are more likely to pick up on!! If its squishyish I really wouldn't worry... enjoy your trip

My family are flying with Thomas Cook this saturday and I really wanted to buy my three yr old one of those Trunki childrens ride-on case which should be used as hand luggage, but since checking our tickets I noticed it would be too big!! I have emailed TC to see if they are allowed on as hand luggage and I am awaiting a reply - so I will let you know if I get a response!!! I am finding it hard to find decent bags within TC's size limit.0

Ello folks, when i used to work on check in the bag had to go completely into the basket. That included wheels and everything, if the wheels prevented it from going in then it had to be checked in (and the according excess baggage charged depending) If it looks dodgy, it will more than likely get pulled. We had a trained eye for the ones that looks even inches too big.
Personally id suggest a sports holdall as these can squash if needs be.
Weight is a higher issue incase it falls out and cracks another passenger or even a child on the head. This happened to me once and i got ragged into the office as it was 1 kilo too heavy. I think about it most days.
Apparently the reason for the size limits is its worked out on everyone being able to place 1 bag in the overhead locker with the space constraints.
Basically if it gets through it gets through, as check in is usually very busy and things often pass the attention (especially when start work at 4am for a possible 12+hr shift bleary eyed)
Just be prepared though incase they ask you to check it in.
jhs222 , I very much doubt it..but its worth a go. TCX customer services are diabolical though so feel privilaged if you get a reply within a decent time frame.4 years of entering competitions daily and not a thing won. What a fix.0 -
Good luck with the Trunki! My little boy loves his but it does slow you down if you're pulling him along due to their inability to steer:)Bankrupt 28/07/08!0

Hi I thought i would bump this as its quite an old thread - going to corfu soon with Thomas Cook from Newcastle and finding it really difficult to find a bag within these specifications, considering im going to have to carry infant formula/nappies/wipes as well as my own essentials...can anyone advise on how strict the airline has been lately? I emailed them and trunkis are allowed as hand luggage providing they do not exceed 5 kilos in weight.0

Definitely the weight they're more likely to pull you up on than the size. If you've only purchased 15kg of luggage instead of the full 20kg its likely they'll be more picky. As the others say if its a squishy bag you can make it smaller. Your infant has 10kg of hold luggage so thats where you should be putting your nappies etc other than what you need for the flight.0 -

From the Thomas Cook websiteCan I Take a Trunki?
Can my child take a Trunki on the flight as hand luggage?
Thomas Cook Airlines do not accept Trunki's as hand luggage. If you would like to take one, it will need to be placed in the hold.0
