Hi bells bells ,
Just posted a reply to you on the dfw thread:D
I use my processor for grating cheese ( makes people use less than slicing it):D shredding veg for home made coleslaw, blitzing tomatoes for sauces, making breadcrumbs for toppings or coating chicken etc, cake mixes, pastry, whizzing up veg to hide in sauces etc, whipping cream, all sorts of things:j
Hope you enjoy it!0 -
Thanks folks for the replies so far - lots of good ideas already.
Ubamother - when you use the pre frozen onions do they brown up in the pan or do they go a bit soggy? I know this does not really matter if they are for soups/stews but OH wants to know!
Sophiesmum - breadcrumbs! now I know what to do with all the heels of hm bread I feel soooo guilty about giving to the birds! And as for your dehydrator - tell me more, I am intrigued!

Hi Bellsbells, when you freeze raw onions and other veg I find it best to let them defrost for a minute in the microwave if you've got one*. Some liquid will appear which you can pour off. They fry better this way, if you chuck a lump of frozen veg into a hot pan it will just sputter and burn. It's true they do get a bit soggy but it doesn't matter for stews/curries/sauces etc.
*If you don't have a microwave set about the veg with a fork to loosen the bit and allow to defrost rapidly. Be careful not to put them in a very hot pan.0 -
I use mine for mincing meat, then i know i wont chew on any fat or grissle0

hi bellsbells - if I process them quite roughly and then saute them off so they get a bit of colour before freezing they tend to be okay - the finer they get, the less they brown, whether cooked first or not.0

I am watching this thread with interest. I have managed until now without a food processor but have been tempted for some time to invest in one.
I am thinking of getting rid of my blender to make space for one (I do have a stick blender too so could manage without it).
Would love to know what people use them for on a regular basis and what is a good make to go for without spending the earth.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
Woo hoo!
I have just picked up a little food processor from Sainsburys for the bargain price of ten quid:j .
It is this model http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kenwood-FP186-compact-processor-liquidiser/dp/B0000ZQQH6
The twins are itching for me to blend, chop or shred something in it.
The stale loaf of bread might be a good place to start. You can never have too many breadcrumbs!!
I still need to get rid of my blender to make space to store it though. I really must get round to have a boot sale.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
Was reading through this thread when I realised I needed to get a move on and use my processor for the HM meatloaf we're eating this evening....sadly I tried to remove the lid before it was properly unlocked, and the protruding piece of plastic which locks it snapped off - and it won't work unless it's properly locked! I suppose I should be grateful that the meatloaf prep was finished, but now I need a new one, preferably with a different locking mechanism! So, could people suggest a new model for me please????
Is the Kenwood Multi-Pro the one to go for, BellsBells?? Normally DH cooks and I know he uses the processor lots!Resolution:

Hi All
I am thinking of buying a food processor but am wary it may become just another gadget to clutter up my cupboards. Do any of you swear by using one - if so what do you use it for? Is there anyone who wishes they hadn't bothered?
Thanks
Shirley0 -
I use mine a lot - BUT I keep it on the work surface. If it was kept in a cupboard I wouldn't bother to get it out half the time (that was the case in the past when I had a smaller kitchen with less worktop space).0
