I've also got some of these units (or very similar ones) - they're great for turning off hard to reach sockets.

However, I've been thinking about them. Are they not just replacing one item on standby with another? What I mean is that in order to work, don't these sockets themselves have to be on standby (i.e. so that they can be turned back on again)? So, when they're in operation, instead of having the TV on standby you've got the socket on standby instead?

If this is true, then it could mean that there's only a saving to be made if there are multiple devices (e.g. TV, DVD, Sky, etc) all plugged into one of these sockets so that they are all turned off at the same time.

I think you might have a point there, however, i have put most of my devces on these units, its great to lay on the sofa and turn things on and off from the remote. It even works through walls, so if i have left anything on, i can be sure it would be off using the remote
Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!

Check Asda. I have bought a few of these sets from there - 3 plugs and a remote for £5.00. They are near the lightbulbs, etc.
