I use Lidl which is similar to Aldi for the following regularly: dishwasher tablets, non-bio laundry tablets, salami (really cheap and good quality), pickles, nuts, and kitchen roll. I also buy fruit and veg and some of their household goods. All of these items are good quality and are as good as leading brands. I can easily save a good £20 when stocking up on stuff.

I saved loods since not shoping in Tesco. I do Lidel for fruit & veg, juices and little bits, then my local Co op for the rest of the everyday top up.
My bill drooped mainly because of not buying too many things with points on. I still have a great stush of washing stuff to keep me going for another 18 month, suppose that is saving some of it now.

I switched from Tesco to Lidl in January and my weekly bill has gone down from £80 to £100 to about £50.
There is much less choice so I am not tempted by non-essentials and I don't have the nightmare of being swept along with hordes of other people in Tesco.
The "expensive" sausages in Lidl are really nice and cost about £2 a packet but on Wednesday or Thursday nights they are often selling them off at a 30% discount so I buy them and put them in the freezer.
