Cheap fruit bushes from poundland- dead?

Bit of a novice gardener here, but all 6 of my blackcurrant bushes seem to be alive and growing leaves.

How many berries roughly should I expect to see this summer?

I am intending to make wine from them if I get enough.:D

My grandad told me to have a scratch at the bark and only buy if its green underneath. Mine from last year are nice and bushy now, so i intend to top up in the autumn.
