Hard Times !

Hi Everyone,
I'd like some input, see what you savvy moneysavers think ?
In work we've been put on 3 day week for the last,2 months ,and I'm finding it hard moneywise (are'nt we all !).

So me and a workmate are thinking of offering a kitchen removal service,on our days off,we'll remove all cabinets and worktops take it and appliances away, dispose of it , cap all water pipes off and make all electrics safe or isolate, clean up and make good the area .
We're both fully qualified tradesmen, and it would work out cheaper and easier (for customers) than a skip !

Thanks in advance .

I can see where youre going with this and its a flipping good idea for people who are going to install their own kitchens.

But for people who are buying kitchens and getting quotes for fitting a new one
its usually in with the quote. A ktichen fitter wouldnt be too pleased i dont think that some one has been their before and done them out of some work.

Just a point just in case you hadnt thought about it.
Good luck if you go for it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I would suggest you look into the cost of you getting rid of the rubbish, they certainly won't allow anyone who appears to be remotely a tradesman (anyone driving a van) dump their rubbish at our council tips.
  • All the units/rubbish would go to my friends farm for burning ect, appliances in my trailer to local dump or resale to second hand shop !
Not trying to take work off've kitchen fitters, do they dispose of your old kitchen then ?
the one who fitted mine would'nt !
Looked at the prices of skips and the size for an average size kitchen is alot of money, plus we would be doing all the work .We are looking to be alot cheaper than a skip . No permit needed for outside your house, less mess too.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated .

if i wanted a new kitchen fitted i would expect the fitters to give me a quote for the whole lot, including disposal of my old kitchen. it it didnt, they would nt get the job.

Remember all the hidden costs, i think you would have to register with HMRC re tax and ni payments.
insurances, public liability etc. waste licence for dumping at the local dump and probably a hundred and one other things.
You need to take some legal advice before starting.

I think this is a great idea, especially for people who are fitting their own kitchen. My OH and I did ours and the whole removal of the existing kitchen was a nightmare, especially the prepping of the walls/removing radiators etc. We had to take the existing cabinets down the tip ourselves a bit at a time in our little car and put up with a huge smashed up wood pile in our tiny garden because a skip was just far too expensive.
Go for it I say but as McNeff says make sure you do it all properly with the NI and Taxman.

We got rid of our old kitchen on Freecycle. The guy who took it even helped to dismantle the units. I've also seen quite a few other people offering their old kitchens on Freecycle, so there may not be much demand for your proposed service.

How about offering to build peoples flatpack units instead?
