Replacement Dell laptop battery

Hey all

I have a 3 and half year old Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop. I need a new battery as the original one died after the laptop not being used for 4months whilst I was working abroad and laptop stayed home.

The original Dell ones on their website retail at approx £110!!

They have ones on Ebay for £25-£40 which are replacement batteries, so I'm assuming that they are non-Dell ones. This is one of them:

I'm not very computery so have no idea as to whether its ok to use the replacement ones. So can anyone please advise me?

At home I generally use my laptop with the AC power plug anyways as we don't have wifi so only use it in my bedroom. But I plan to move this year and get wifi, plus I'm starting to work away a bit so being able to use the laptop with the battery only may come in useful.

Many thanks in advance.

check the power ratings and stuff on your own battery to see if they match the ones on ebay, if they do then i cant see any problems with them as £110 is very excessive, £25 does seem cheap so who knows what the quality will be like.

Thats about right for replacment batteries. Given the spate of some lithium Ion batteries breaking out in flames you need to consider if it's worth buying an non Dell one, as you'll have very little comeback if it goes up in flames.

My battery is 11.1V, the Ebay one I linked to is 14.8V.

So does that mean it's not suitable? Do I need to find one with 11.1V?

    Thanks

    yes absolutely

wouldnt want to burn out components, its not just the voltage either, all the other rating matter too, try amazon aswell and ebuyer etc, you wqill find one eventually but as mentioned there is always the risk of it catching fire, however this is about the same as buying a new dell one if you dont go too cheap and get the specs correct
