It's water that is emulsified (mixed with) the oil. Generally you get a bit of this under the cap and it's not much to worry about. If there's loads of it, or/and it's also on your dip stick then it could be a sign of something more serious like the head gasket.

Is there any on the dipstick or much under the cap?
  • ok, why were you putting oil in, do you have problems or just topping it up

does your car do lots of short miles?

If you only do short miles take your car for a nice long drive on a motorway and see if it goes away, could just be caused by condensation

this happened to me a few months ago on an old renault and it was because i was only doing short trips and the engine wasn't getting up to temp. i would only worry iif the engine seems to be running hot and check the water for a rust colour.

oil on dip stick is fine, put oil in it as it wasnt upto the second mark i only put a bit in tho as i not checked it for ages.
Yea i only do short trips in it so will take it out for long spins for a couple of times this week and see if that works.

As said above clean off what you can from the cap and take it for a nice long run, if you havent had a service / oil change for a long time it may be worth getting the oil changed once you have burnt off the condentation.
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

  • You should check the coolant reservoir for oil.
