I have tried to stop my elderly mother using premium rate numbers by barring them on her phone.
I used the information on the BT web site but when I tried to do it got the message 'this is not available'.
FYI I did the following - pressed the star key, 34, 6 and then the hash key.
Rang the help line but entirely automated so couldn't report a possible fault or find out anything.
Can anyone help? :beer:

To bar premium rate the sequence is *34, 7 hash
There is no barring option using the code 6. For some reason the coding goes 1 2 3 4 5 7The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

The information on the web site is wrong then. I printed it off and it definitely says '6' for barring calls to premium rate numbers'!
Will try 7 next time I visit.

Barring Premium Rate calls is a free BT service unconnected with the 'Calling Features' about whch you are talking.
The subscriber can add this to their account by calling 150.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
