:THave this week tried for the first time sainsburys basics bio wash liquid. Thought I would challenge it with DS3 white school shirts. I was suprised to find that they came up a treat. I had also added soda crystals, so that helped. No stains on collar or cuffs and no smell of adolescent sweaty pits . Next weeks challenge is the cats' bed.

  • Yeap 3rd week back and they look like Monets works. I've washed them with bio plus Ariel stain remover and a lot has come out but there still dirty.
They are the polo type tops in white. Would bleach help? if so how do I do that please? Thanks

I'm having the same problem :o DD seems to eat like a 2 year old when she's at school. Loads of tomato sauce stains, pen, grease etc.

I've been using bio plus some of that Ace stuff and soda crystals too and washing at 60 degrees. Works on most food stains but I still can't shift the pen.

  • Try soaking them in napisan for a couple of days then bung them in the wash, my OH is a printer and a messy eater and it gets shot of a lot of the stuff dribbled down his front.

I put DS's school shirts in the washer with a mug full of bleach, at least once each half term. Switch the washer on a cool/cold wash, and once its filled with water and sloshed everything about a couple of times, I switch the washer off, and leave it to soak for a couple of hours.

After the couple of hours, put the machine on to rinse, then follow up with a normal quick wash cycle to wash the swimming pool smell out of them.

Works for me - and has the bonus of keeping the washing machine pong-free too :)
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

    Hi narabanekeater,

My two youngest wear white cotton shirts to school. I wash them on a hot wash with the (white) towels. So far we've not had any major spills or stains this year. Fingers crossed. :D

Do you know what the stains are as that may help us to help you?

In the meantime these threads may help:

I would suggest either Napisan, Biotex, or bleach! start with hot water and dissolve the Biotex or napisan or the bleach (read the label for measures for soaking whites). Then leave overnight and put into the machine on a HOT wash.
saying that, I do find that sometimes the old-fashioned nailbrush and soap often get out stains with a bit of hard scrubbing and patience!
  • Laundry soap the green bars from Mr M's 50p for 2 bars. I dampen and rub on stains before washing works on my monsters white school polo shirts i also use bio powder and a 60/90 wash depending on how bad they are.
Sometimes i like to imagine that im living on the breadline as a single mum with 3 children to feed and clothe, bills to pay and very little time to myself........ then i wake up and realise im a princess with prince charming by my side and a lovely white castle........ oh wait
  • I always use Ariel stain remover whitener, its brilliant for getting stains out of my DS's school tops... x
