Capped prices and cost comparison

After being told I am soooo being ripped off by british gas, I have decised to do something about it.

Tried the energyhelpline website, and have a few questions.

Firstly I have only put in my postcode (I intend digging out the bills and getting more accurate figures) to get prices. Near top of my list is EQIGAS and EQIPOWER. BUT thier service rating is only 2/5. Has anyone got any experience of them, what are they like ?

Also regarding price capping, I almost got sucked in by BG (spit !!) price fix promise (blah blah) but me is confused. I'm not intending using them but they have this premium thing where it appears that they charge you higher (2.5% ish) for gas and lower for elec. Surely that is not fixing.

Me no understand ?? Can someone explain.

What are all these price fixes about, and are they really worth it ?

Thanks for your help

"If you only get your gas from us, you could fix your new prices for a small premium of 2.3%. And if we only supply your electricity, we'll actually give you a discount of 3.5% for fixing your new prices until April 2009."

What they are saying is that your rates are capped at TODAYS price with a preminum of 2.3% for gas and discount 3.5% elec on top of that price.

Given that the price is then fixed at TODAYS price until 2009, with the discount or premium on top.

EG: if todays tarrif per unit = 100p gas and 100p elec, you will pay 102.3p for gas and 96.5p for elec. And you'll pay that price per unit until 2009.

    It's a simple as that.

You'll have to read the T&C for other suppliers offering capped/ fixed tariffs to see if they have any discounts/ premiums factored in.

make sure to remember to include Direct Debit discount when you are calculating which supplier is the best - different ones offer different amounts.
Powergen currently offer a 9% DD discount on their capped product.
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.

Ahhh, I see. Me was thinking that it was like a tracker (even though they said it was fixed).

    Thanks for that smartie :T

Did you start the 20p savers club ? :D

I was with Ebico and was completely satisfied with their services. I have since changed supplier to Southern as I qualified for 20% off their standard rate of prices on their energyplus care.
