Mantis Tiller And Dethatcher

I wonder if of you guys out there can help me.

I recently bought a Manthis tiller with the lawn care kit, dethatcher and aerator, as regards the dethatcher it seems to suggest that when dethatching that you walk backways with the tiller.

What confuses me is that the tines of the detatcher natually move in a forward direction so if you move backwards you are going against the natual movement of the machine, I don't understand whay this should be - would it not damage the dethatchers tines?

I'm also thinking to myself that by moving against the natural pull of the machine that its going to be quite difficult work - though maybe I'm wrong

Many thanks for any advice offered.
