Hit by a Polish lorry with different number plates?
Hi,
Driving home Thursday, I was clipped by a LHD Polish Lorry pulling out, which caused me to spin round on the M25 and smash into the barrier. Thankfully I'm ok, battered, bruised and hurting all over but thankfully still alive, and full marks to Mercedes for building an blooming strong car.
Anyway, the lorry that hit me had different number plates. The two on the cab were the same but the ones on the lorry bit were different???
They both began the same e.g. WPI 1XXX, and the other WP1 1YYY. I've never seen this on british lorries, but wasn't sure if this was ok in Poland?
Can anyone shed any light

Yes, I've noticed this. It is clear to me that this is a standard practice in many countries abroad.0

we have a lot of european lorries my work place and the trailers allways have a different plate to the unit0

Aren't the plates on the trailers removable so you can change them to match the cab? They probably never bother to change them when they change the trailers.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0

The UK are about the only ones it Europe who have the same number for cab and trailer. But I'm sure the police would have told you all was ok when they attended.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. On the continent, the trailers must be registered and tested seperately from the cabs and are treated like different vehicles. Therefore you won't find a foreign lorry with the same plate on as the trailer. So there is nothing to worry about.'' A man who defends himself, has a fool for a client''0

Nothing to worry about if your insurance company is good. Going all the way to Poland to get redress might be an issue. I bet you also suffered "whip-lash" so go and see your doctor and get a certificate to attest you are now in pain0

How many times have you seen people cars driving with trailers that have no working lights, or no lights at all? I've seem cobbled together home made trailers that look on the point of collapse, put there seems to be no restrictions on them.
There are some dreadful things on the road.. and invariably the people towing these clapped out trailers only do so infrequently and have poor spatial awareness on the road..
the MOT test apparently now includes a new section on the tow bar, if fitted, which i suppose is a start..0 -

And bump up all the honest motorists insurance with another possible fraudulent claim :rolleyes:0 -

Thanks for the advice everyone, the police didn't attend as I spun into the hard shoulder barrier not the central one and therefore wasn't an obstruction. How helpful of me, I must remember to do that next time.
I think my insurance will claim for everything, its a company car and they dropped off a new car an hour after it happened, and their legal team had already rung by then, so i'm guessing getting redress from Poland won't be an issue for them!
I'm not about profiteering from an accident, but if I drove a bloody great car and caravan in France I would put on some extra mirrors on the RHS so I could see more. This happens all the time apparently, as they simply cannot see anyone and pull out into them. So I feel justified in at least claiming back the medical costs involved.
I'm sure some people play the system, but when your sat at home 4-5 days later and dosing up on pills and still in pain for something that wasn't your fault at all I can see why some people really claim for as much as possible. Damn you morals, you could have a nice house deposit!0
