Laptops Froze Help Please

I have a Gateway Laptop that runs windows vista.. When I turned it off last night it went to the blue screen which states logging off.. After 20 mins it still hadn't so I turned it off by the off button.. I turned it on this morning and it's still on the logging off screen..

I've turned the power off at mains, took the battery out of the laptop, put in the operating disc which brings up nothing, pressed ctrl, Alt, del, pressed all the F buttons and still nothing.. It's still logging off..

I hope it's something really simple to fix and one of you guys can help me.. I am not 'techie minded' at all..

Hold down power button until it switches off, or remove battery and power cord. Then cross your fingers.

Thanks.. I can get it switched off.. It's when I turn it back on it's still stuck on logging off page.. I am stuck on that page..

Did you try it, there's switched off, and there's switched off. If it doesn't boot up to the bios screen, it isn't switched off, it's in suspension
