clearing old firefox history

I'vegot some very old histoy which keeps coming up when i use the firefox search box and i want to delete it.The usual clear history wont do it --what else can i do?? :confused:

    Use https://www.ccleaner.com and when installing dont untick install yahoo toolbar
    this is a neat little tool as it clears out all sorts of pap.

    You could try closing Firefox and deleting the history file:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<eight characters>.default\history.dat

    The problem is that the pc is predicting which website i want according to the first letter in the search.--I'm sure its got to be a setting -but which ?? I cant remember--- :confused: ( age related i expect)

    Firefox also has an extension that will do this for you / allow you to do this - go to the extensions page (Tools -> Extensions -> Get More Extensions (Hyperlink)) and do a search for 'Clear Private Data'. Once it's installed you can set it to clear all or some of your private data from the menu's or from a context menu.
