I've plugged a brand new microphone into my Dell PC but I can hear next to no sound
I've gone into control panel and turned up all the volumes as high as possible but it makes no odds
doesnt work with my headset either, and I know my new mic is working as I've just used it to web chat on my laptop
Am I missing something blindingly obvious or is my Dell faulty?
(ps I've done a search of the forum but nothing matches up to my problem)

If you have a USB headset yer Soundcard is probably rigged up for that
so you have to change the sound in option for a 3.5mm jacked Microphone.
Right click speaker Icon then, Adjust Audio Properties, Voice Tab
and test hardware and use the other Microphone....
Well its a start..

By default the volume control applet shows you the playback settings.
Start sound control,
Select options -> properties
Tick recording
Make sure mcrophone IS ticked and fully "up" then click OK0 -
I had already tried that, just tried it again though, if I really shout into it close up a little bit of green shows on the volumy thing (dont know what to call it but it's meant to go yellow I think when the sound is correct)
I am stumped.....

Thanks, I was getting into a right old stress earlier as I was trying to webcam my folks back home and ended up having to set my laptop up. At least next week I should be up and running
