Selling to a new overseas ebay buyer with 0 feedback?

I have just sold an item on ebay it had a lot of people watching and it went for £65. I am concerned though because the winning bidder has only been a member for 4 days and they have 0 feedback and they are from Mexico. Am I safe to send the item to them if they pay by paypal? Is there some sort of scam they can do? Maybe they are genuine but it just makes me nervous they didn't email to ask if I would ship overseas or anything. What would you do - the 2nd highest bidder has feedback I wish it had sold to them!

Just take the normal precautions as far as possible ,I don't think Mexico is on the airsure list so you'll have to use international signed for which doesn't guarantee a signature. Also remember to add extra for enough insurance.

Personally I do not sell high end goods overseas and expecially not to countried that I can't insure for.

My only caveat would be if this is a mobile phone then yes you have problems due to no insurance.

It's not a mobile phone - TBH I didn't expect the item to sell for so much it's a memorabilia type item so I suppose if they are a fan then they will pay a lot. I will see if they pay by tomorrow? I wish I coul sell it to the next highest bidder as they are UK based and also have good feedback but I can't do that can I?

Unfortunately you can't unless you can persuade the winner to back out and agree to a mutual.

Unless you specified in your auction that you'd post within the UK only.....
    I think?!

You would also have needed your seller preferences set to exclude non UK bidders but OP seemed happy to ship worldwide so I doubt this was the case.

The seller has just completed checkout and I have received a message from ebay saying they will be sending payment by postal order or bankers draft shortly - I'm a bit annoyed now I am going to have to wait ages for the money and what if it's one of those bankers drafts that say they have cleared but actually haven't - I suppose it's my fault I shouldn't have allowed world wide but I just thought it would most likely be a UK purchase and if it was overseas they would most likely have feedback and be able to pay by paypal. Does this sound like a scam or just someone who really wants the item and has never used ebay before but joined especially for this...? Any tips on how to protect myself re cashing the bankers draft? I heard storied about some being cashed and the bank saying they have cleared then the funds being reversed later. I don't mind accepting UK cheques and postal orders but overseas ones seems dodgy?

I would drop them a line making sure they know to pay you in sterling.

Would it be really bad to message them saying I don't accept bankers drafts/postal orders from overseas buyers because in my auction it states I accept them but that is for UK buyers - there is no option to pick and choose who you accept them for. I am happt to accept them for the few UK bidders who have no paypal - I may stop this altogether though after this auction. The buyer is from Mexico (is the mail coming from there at all at the mo)

If you'd rather get a neg than lose your money then just say sorry I don't post outside the UK. Then send 2nd chance to next buyer with a note saying I am able to offer this to you as other bidder was from outside UK and I only post within Uk.

I have sent a request to cancel the transaction so I will see what happens - I have also sent a second chance offer to the UK buyer. I think I will only sell to UK bidders from now on selling overseas makes me feel nervous. I think I will also change my auctions to accept paypal only. I may get my first negative but such is life and 1 negative against 800 positive can't be that bad.
