My credit card has been cloned!

in Credit cards
Had a phone call this afternoon from the HSBC Fraud Squad.
They asked if I'd made a payment this morning for £1 to Charity Aid, I said no and they said my credit card had been cloned and they would cancel my card and issue a new one.
I've tried to access my account online to see if any other unusual items are showing but it wont let me view any recent transactions.
I'm now worried as to how someone has been able to clone my credit card when I only use it once a month.
BTW: Is it a coincidence that a work colleage had his HSBC credit card cloned last year?

Certianly, if you gave them any details (DOB, card security number, etc), call the bank as thriftymomma suggests.
There's a scam that involve an unknown caller phoning someone, telling them they're the bank and suspect their card has been used fruadulately, then extracting card details from them (saying they need to confirm your indentity) and using the details to make fraudulant transactions.
Unless you're certain it was the bank, double check.
As to the question about you colleague, it's unlikely to be related to work. You could have both shopped at the same place where someone was copying cards (which could have happened). Most likely they're totally unrelated.0 -
Well, if you cant view recent transaction, then you ought to call your bank direct to see what't going on0

About a year back i had people ringing me claiming to be from my bank, asking security questions, etc.
I refused to speak with them, after all, I had no proof they were my bank, and I told them outright I thought they were 'phishing' by phone.
When I went into my bank it turned out I was correct.
Be very careful.0
