When moving housse, we decided to take our phone number from virgin to bt so that we could have the evening and weekends package and it also worked out cheaper than virgins package.

So I went to bt's website, http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayCategory.do?categoryId=CON-HOME-PHN-R1

Selected
Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan £0 a month, 12 months renewable contract, plus £11.25 line rental.

t&c

Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan. Only £11.25 a month line rental with Direct Debit and paper-free billing, for new and existing residential customers signing up to a 12 month renewable contract. This means you have a 12 month minimum renewable period. So, after 12 months, your contract will be automatically renewed for another 12 month minimum renewable period unless you tell us otherwise. We'll write to remind you when your contract is nearing the end of a renewable period. Exclusions and conditions apply. £35 saving based on comparison with cost of the same BT Calling Plan with no minimum term.

I then went onto the next screen,
I need a new line or reconnection (including cable customers)

On the next screen I input my old number and selected the option to bring it over.

Fine thought all done, thats what I though bt changed my appointment x3 times without even telling me and this was all because their operators or system incorrectly put the order through. So enough was enough I wasnt having it, called bt got no where they insisted that I logged an ofcom complaint before they would deal with it, normal companys try to stop before getting to this stage.

So I had to complain, whent through to complaints and they moved the appointment forward, the guy came from openreach who owns the exchange and engineers that work for bts sister company, he adviced that no wirring was required to be done, he jsut updated the facia on the box as he said its an old bt one and not the new shinny openreach ones which took all of 2 minutes and Im not exadurating.

For this pleasure of reconnection bt are charging £122.50!!!! now in there temrms it says if wiring external or internal needs repairing, now there was nothing wrong at all with the socket and all the engineer was todo was x2 screws and punch the cables back on, switch the switch on at the exchange and thats it, not only did I ask him what had been done but I used to contract for Anova whom Bt contract their home it work out to so I know engineers in all sectors. So why charge for nothing, so seems there recon for free is a con!

Bt sent the paperwork out after the line, it says rental for 12 months, £12.50 inc, recon charge of £122.50. It says

My case handler claims that we signed up for an 18 month contract, click the link below can you see anything for 18 month contract on phone lines? Me either, the line was installed on the 14/4, guess what now have to wait until the 18/5, they are also charging for x2 line rentals. They really dont care about customers. Stay with VIRGIN, they are bad but not as bad

They should be showing the full reconnection fee in all (100%) of the cases. This is then reduced either as an offer, or when the install comes back as no (or minimal) work required. Which is better than being told it's free, then being hit with a +£100 fee.

What do you expect? They reportedly have an 8 BILLION POUNDS pensions black hole to try and fill whilst keeping the dividend payouts going, lol. They would appear to have reached the conclusion that it is the customer who pays for this as they are far less likely to jump ship than those fickle shareholders...:p

Dont you pay extra if you dont take the rolling contract? Or have you taken it out?

Just signed up via the contract, didnt say you pay extra only when you are out of contract you do. Im not sure if its an issue for ASA as its false advertising, if they gave me what they say they were I wouldnt blink an eye lid I always pay my bills and what I owe.

free evening & weekend plan is free if taken on a renewable rolling 12 month contract at £11.25/month, this is based
on paperless billing and direct debit , your bill shows quarterly/ 3 months @ £15.45 , you subtract £2.75 , (-£1.25 for paperless billing and -£1.50 for direct debit ) ... even if you sign up for them they appear as a credit on the bill, this means £1.45 unaccounted for which is about the cost of the family & friends & mobiles add on, dunno if you asked for that,
The 18 month line rental deal was if the customer gets a new line installed but the £122 install fee is waived if you accept the 18 month term for line rental/calls, it was a type of special deal so wasnt on the main page on the web site but tucked away, if fact
it was so well hidden that lots of BT sales staff dont know it exists

You would of thought they wanted peoples business, mind you saying that my friend used to contract for bt home it, which was contracted to anova then contracted out yet again to a company called pc callout, they used to tell there engineers to extend jobs past the 1 hour stage on purpose in anyway they can he did leave though as wasnt willing todo it. You will also find that they dont even check peoples qualifications and they are all self employed.
