Kitten for my daughter

That is always the way you see loads of kittens "free to a good home" posters when your not thinking of getting one
But when you are there is none about
Mine were given to me from a friend who just wanted to get rid of the litter so i had 2
Also you could try local newsagent shops i often see kittens for sale or free
In the window they usually have a for sale board up
Good luck in your search and i hope you get one soon:D0 -
Got my 2 kittens last year like this:
Got totally fed up as cats protection league had loads of kittens wanting homes on their website but said no to us as we live on a street they deemed to be too dangerous just by looking at the map ( if they even did this).
We have 1 cat already and all neighbours have cats. we also live opposite a small primary school with lots of speed traps and our big garden backs on to other gardens not roads
I decided that I had to find and independent person that rescues cats that actually wanted to re-home them.
I went to a Pet shop in Leeds that I know has a good reputation and treats the animals well. They gave me the details of a retired lady in the area that rescues cats just because she loves them!
I contacted her and she put us on her waiting list and 3 months later - 2 beautiful tabby kittens. We are so happy and our 3 cats are a constant source of fun..:-)0 -
I was in the same position as you when i was looking for a kitten. the rspca shelter were no use because as soon as kittens came in, they went out again. they even phoned me but by the time i arrived 1/2 hour later, someone else had taken the kitten.
The cats protection league were by far nicer about it but only knew of ferral kittens. (they can also sometimes help with cost of neutering)
there are loads of ferral kittens around farming areas, but even if you get them really young they do not make the best pets.
we tried the vets and sometimes they knew of individuals who rescued cats.
In the end, it was local contacts that got us a kitten because my daughter's boyfriend had a neighbour whose cat was always having kittens and she gave us one.
I was as surprised as you are that they seem to have done such a supurb job neutering every cat around, that kittens are in short supply! who knew!
If it's of any help there seem to be more about in the spring.0 -
Hi
i left a message for cats protection league and an email and got nothing back so i assume they don't have these anymore.
Just have to keep looking i guess, will ring round the vets tomorrow, went into big pet shops near my house and they didn't have anything but dogs on their board!!
oh well....

Someone told me that its the wrong time of year for kittens i don't know if this is true, we've been looking for ages, found an advert in the local papers, went to see, the original litter had all gone but the woman had another one that would be ready thursday so we nearly took her hand off! I left messages with the local cat rescue group but no one ever rang me back.0

It is the wrong time of year for kittens. There will be loads once late spring/summer starts - so June or so onwards.
If you know what colour/type you want, register with the local cat's protection and they'll call you once kitten season starts! :-)0 -
we got our kitty from the cats protection league homing centre. They were excellent and the donation was only £25 (we gave £50 as they do a great job). The RSPCA wanted £75 I think.
Our cat was born early April which is when you want to start visiting the centres as mid April there will be loads needing good homes. As the people running these centres are doing the job mainly out of good cause not financial gain their time can be so strectched. They can't always ring back. Bets time to call I found was about 1pm as the main jobs that keep them from a phone are done in the mornings. Just keep trying a book a viewing appointment. If you have had a cat before no problems. If not they may want some background on your house/garden etc.
Please, please don't buy from a pet shop. It just isn't warranted, there are so many kittens who really need homing.
Give it a few more weeks and will have your pick of kittens - when we went o view there must have been about 50 looking for homes and the majority under 6 weeks old.
Good Luck0 -

I agree - rescue is better! We have a rescue dog, but we had to wait for her too!
You could also try the Other Animals Needing Homes on DogPages, although I just had a look and there don't seem to be any kittens, so maybe it is the wrong time."No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0 -
