I really must get out more (or more probably devote myself to my studies) as I can';t stop thinking about new ideas for this thread! Has your friend ever visited a Tudor recreation event at Kentwell Hall in Long Melford, Suffolk? I can really recommend it as a brilliant day out, although to get value for money you need to go early, take a picnic and make a full day of it as it is not cheap... around £16 - £17 for adults. My ds actually took part for a week when he was 10 (we lived very nearby and his school regularly took a group of children to re-enact the Tudor schoolroom). He was thrilled. Tickets to this might be a bit expensive for a novelty basket but maybe you could download some info and offer to go with her if it is not too far for you to travel.

Some ideas to make or buy...

Shopping - gift vouchers, coupons, re-useable bag, foot massager/scrub/moisturiser/refresh spray, after all the treking around! 'Day Out' voucher where you take her to an outlet mall, e.g in the South Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, Bicester Oulet Village, McArther Glenn, Swindon. Shopping savings pot/jar.

Curries - recipe book, (could make your own from free online ones) spice mixes, voucher towards a cookery course, rice/noodles packet mixes, voucher for a local restaurant...

Alcohol - miniature bottles of her favourites, wine cooler for when shes at the beach(!) corkscrew/bottle opener gadget, novelty bottle stopper, cocktail kit items, novelty ice cub tray or reusable ice cubes, funky glass, wine glass charms, stirrers...

Tudor - The Tudors DVD, entry ticket/voucher to Hampton Court or other Tudor House/Castle, CD of the music?!

Horses - calendar, DVDs of horse-movies, e.g. Black Stallion, Sea Biscuit, Black Beauty - or westerns with John Wayne!

Holidays especially beach ones - holiday essentials kit - mini toiletries, (the Soap & Glory ones are fun) sun stick in a crazy colour, sarong, fold-up beach bag, (could also be used for the shopping bag) click-lit novel, anti-wrinkle cream sachet, (order samples from websites, e.g. Olay Total Effects) silly sunglasses, then wrap it all up in a beach towel!

    Right I'll stop now!!

How about getting her some bottles of miniature alcohol which are actually bubbles? I know quite a few joke stores round here do them so maybe they do where you are too?
