At the risk of sounding a bit flat cap and whippet can anyone tell
me:
What time to do the tubes shut at night?
Is there a reduced service on Bank Hols?
1 adult (with no sense of direction) and 2 children under 13yrs (Family Railcard) staying 2 or 3 days (Travelodge). We will need to travel from Kings x to possibly:
Science Museum
Tate Modern
Covent Garden
Camden Mkt
Whats the best (by which I mean least confusing and cheapest) way of getting around please?

For an 'outsider', definitely the tube.
Get a tube map. Either download one or pick one up when you arrive in London.0 -

Thanks for that- i 'd also found a tourist tube map here http://static.visitlondon.com/assets/maps/travel_maps/visitors_guide_to_travelling_around_london.pdf
It was the travelcard/oyster card or some day pass that i was finding complicated.
The variables being adult prices vs child prices vs family price and does the bank hol mean there is an off peak price?
Or is it peak all day every day?0 -
Bank holidays are off peak all day.
One day off peak travelcards are probably your best bet - £5.60 adult and £1 each child for zones 1/20 -
Bank Holidays are usually a Saturday service on the Underground. Off peak tickets apply. Don't know how much children are - it is so complicated now. Think they might br free? Not sure, though. Family Railcard is no good - that is just for British Rail, not London Transport.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0

Is it the Kings Cross Royal Scot or Kings Cross Travelodge you're staying at ? If it's the Royal Scot, then there is a newsagents between the hotel and the tube station that sells one day travel cards - saves queueing at the station. Go right when you leave the hotel, follow the road round to the left and the newsagent is just round the bend on the left hand side - it has big posters saying something like 'tfl ticket sales' in the window. For the places you mention you only need the one for zones 1&20
-
Thanks
That useful to know i only need a zone 1 and 2 and great tip about the newsagent/queues0 -
Kids are free under 16 but 11-16 need to prove their ages - though I have a big 11 yr old who hasn't yet been challenged so if you're with him/her you're probably ok0
