Can someone please help. My computer keeps going into hibernate mode when I switch it on. It starts to power up/boot up? and then when it gets to the windows/home page it suddenly says 'preparing to hibernate' and proceeds to shut down! I have access to my friends laptop so can keep checking back for any help/advice anyone can offer me PLEASE :-)

What computer, what OS?
When this happens are you running it on mains or on battery? No free lunch, and no free laptop

If you're running a laptop, it's possible critically low on battery power and shutting down as a precaution. Leave in plugged in but turned off for a while and see if that sorts it.te audire non possum. musa sapientum fixa est in aure.0

^^ if the above doesn't seem to work then plug the laptop in when its off and the battery light should be on (to indicate charging). If its not then obviously somethings going wrong elsewhere.0

It is a laptop and runs on windows xp. I don't know if was running low on power or was plugged in the last time was in use as the kids were using it. Have plugged mains lead in and will leave it a while and try again. Thanks for help/responses. If no joy I shall return for more help, lol0

Something you might also be doing is clicking shutdown, and then instantly shuting the lid. On mine, it's set up to hibernate when I close the lid so if I do this, it remembers that I wanted to hibernate, and does this immediately after I start up!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

Thanks for that money_grabber. I shall be telling the kids to make sure they wait for it to shut down completely before they close it!0
