OK guys help re bobbly sheets Dreams are being "difficult"

Bought an expensive bed at Dreams- delivered 9 days ago- fine no problems, infact initially very happy with service.

Kingsize bed, so bought new sheets from them at the same time- nice "luxury egyptian cotton".

Put one sheet on bed, slept on it (as you do!) and by day 5 it was bobby and rough.

OK I thought this must be "not fit for purpose" as the purpose of a sheet (you'd think..) is to be comfy, not bobbly sandpaperish, for a couple of years.

Not washed it yet so the can't blame it on incorrect washing!

Took it back to dreams "Can I have a refund please this isn't fit for the purpose".

Sales lady "ooh that isn't good" but we can't do refunds Head office do....

Manager "not it isn't faulty, we don't refund, you could have an exchange".....errr no thanks I don't want another bobbly sheet thanks:mad::mad:

DH range head office "managers decision is final" lark:rolleyes:

Amazingly petty of them to ruin all the good will they had with me over a couple of £20 sheets after we have spent a huge amount of money, but there you are, I'm not going to let them get to me.

Few questions for my MSE friends:

Am I being unreasonable- should a sheet bobble?? (if it was a polycotton £5 value from tescos maybe, but "100% egyptian cotton"??)

If bobbling occurs, will it, as the head office bloke tried to fob DH off with "it'll settle with washing etc"

Where do I take things next to get my money back, which is all I want- trading standards?

THanks

(who is off to Ikea to buy some of the sheets that she knows don't bobble as we have had the doubles for 18months or so!)

    Hello there,
I have worked in home furninshing for over 10 yrs and I can tell you that
100% Egyptian Cotton sheets should not bobble after 5 days and it will not settle down after washing.
Keep plugging away at the store manager, mention that you doubt that they are 100% cotton and you are considering contacting trading standards...this should get you the refund!!
    Good Luck

The technical term for your problem is 'Pilling'.

Go back to Dreams head office and ask to speak to Paul Lacey. Tell him the problem and demand he deals with it to your satisfaction or you will go to Trading Standards.

    Regards,
    Art.

Ring head office back and tell them they can say "the managers decision if final" until the cows come home, it doesn't take away your statutory rights. The sheets are not of acceptable quality therefore they are obliged by law to give you a full refund.

Quote the sale of goods act to them and tell them if they are denying you your statutory rights they are breaking the law and therefore you will take it further.

You would think considering you'd spent a large amount of money there, they would be decent and just refund you no questions asked but I guess customer service isn't very good there! :)

Can't believe how petty they are- still the same "we don't refund on soft furnishings...Full stop.

Have sent a complaint after speaking to consumer direct and using their template...unfortunately, and this is obviously a lesson to learn.....I had the sheets 6 weeks before I could use them (because the bed took that long to be delivered!) and this may well be an issue as I can't prove it ws only used for a few nights...:mad:

The delay shouldn't matter - sheets should be fine for MUCH longer than 6 weeks!

I've had this problem with QVC and also The White Company - both refunded without problems and the White Company even gave me an extra £15 gift voucher. PIlling is VERY uncomfortable.

THanks for your supportive comments- I was sort of thinking I was getting all humphy about nothing, but sheets SHOULD be comfy and last for a year or 2 at least shouldn't they!

THe blanket "no refunds" really gets my goat:o there is no way I want an exchange as I have replaced the sheets, and anyway I have no faith that identical ones would be any different- why should they be?

They can't have a "blanket" no refund sign. If an item isn't up to scratch, they have to give a refund, by law. They might have a sign up and think that it puts them above the law but it doesn't. :)

My hubby hates bobbly sheets, we seem to have been unlucky with the last 2 we purchased. Which Ikea sheets dont do this? I might have to go to Ikea!

Not only does it not put them above the law, it actually makes them in contempt of it. It is an offence to show a sign stating a blanket "No refunds" without the statutory rights exclusion too.

They won't be different ! At least, I had replacements from QVC originally - they were just as bad so I asked for a refund. Some people probably have rather more sensitive skins and feel pilling more than others - I'm one of them and I expect you are as well. Regardless, the sheets are no good to you so you should insit on a refund. May well take a bit of perseverence though - I've found companies often try to fob you off at first on the assumption that MOST people will simply give up. I NEVER give up - dogs and bones have nothing on me!
