do these have a vw engine in them? sounds very VW like in terms of its problem

yeah, the ford galaxy, at least on the outside, is basically identical to the vw sharan and the seat alhambra.. there was/is some sort of collaboration between ford and vw and some galaxy models are fitted with a ford engine while others have a VW engine.. i believe the latest galaxy can be fitted with the 200hp 24v VR6 from VW.

it's pretty common thing to happen. the turbo went on our supra in much the same fashion - it threw out a huge cloud of smoke accelerating off a roundabout.. i got a salvaged turbo from ebay at £160 delivered, iirc..

it pays to stop immediately if you suspect the turbo has gone because it will suck the engine dry of oil and completely wreck it.

they are lovely cars.. (i've said that three times in this thread now, so i better stop before someone thinks i work for ford!)..

however, i just saw a discussion about changing the timing chain on the VR6... totally crazy job.. it apparently took two men two days to change the chain, and one of them was an experienced aeronautical engineer!!
