you can download microsoft boot disks from here
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
try creating a new boot disk with a fresh floppy and boot from that
then re-run windows setup, and it *should* in theory fix any problems
though if your hard disk has completely failed, theres not much u can do other than, try and recover your important files, using some disk utiliities. Ive heard Spinrite is good for this kind of thing, its not free though. Then get yourself a new hard disk.0 -
if it's a windows problem download KNOPPIX (google for it).. it's a version of linux which runs straight from a cd-rom. Put it in the drive and watch it go. It will install itself.. then if you have a CD-RW you can back up everything you need to keep my using the built in cd burner software..

what happend when you clicked on the exe in winxp?
also did you make sure you got the right version of the boot disk, i think theres 2 different versions for windows 98, win98 and win98se.0 -

oopsie! how did u manage that?
i dont think microsoft sells windows 98 any more, so even if you did want to buy it you couldnt. though theres always alternative channels, you could probably buy a copy on ebay quite cheaply or at a computer fair.0 -
