Add my Father to mortgage papers

Hi,

I am with Halifax cuently on SVR. Currently the mortgage is on my name and my wife but i would like to have my father (aged 72) name as well. How do i go about doing this. since he lives with me he might as well have his name on the motgage papes as well.

Beside i can get allowances on insulation and new boiler as well.

    You need the consent of your wife and Halifax, as well as a solicitor to do the legal work in changing ownership of the property in to 3 names.

    Cost around £400.
    Beside i can get allowances on insulation and new boiler as well.
    That's nice. You might regret it though if your local authority decide to take the value of the house in to account when assessing costs of old age care for Dad.

    Why do you want to do this? Just because he lives with you? If he wants security then give him a tenancy agreement or something.

    Agreed. I can't see any point on you putting him on it at all, unless he is contributing to the costs of the mortgage and wants some form of security

    This is probably why the OP wants Dad on the mortgage papers.

    If dad ever has to go into care, his part ownership of your house will be taken into account.
