Have you contacted your existing insurance company? Most should be able to add an additional driver on for a short period.

Brucey is right - it may cost but your current motor insurers should cover your visitors - It's much better her in Florida - any family or friends visiting I just call my insurers and its done free. Also my motorcycle policy is "free" with my car (I do need additional if I want to ride without a crash helmet) - they have the view that I can only drive one at a time and that it's the same car no matter who's driving. Great Huh?

When my parents came over from australia last year we were not able to get them insured to drive our car. Even though my dad is brittish as he is not a resident we could not insure him even by taking out a temporary policy.

If you do find someone to insure them can you post here so I can try with them next time my folks come over.

That is the key word there: temporary policy. You shouldn't have any problem adding a non-resident to an existing policy for a short period of time but you will have trouble getting them their own policy.

    Hi
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm in the same situation as the OP and wondered if anyone can help.
I am a UK resident, but my other half is going to be coming over from the States in October and I'd like to insure him on my car.

I'm only just buying a car now, so I'm not yet signed up to any insurance policy (although need to sort that out tomorrow before I pick up my car), and all the companies I've called will not let me add him to my policy as he's a non-UK resident.

Does anyone by any chance happen to know of a company which will insure a non-resident for a short period of time? I don't really want to put him as a named driver on my annual policy (even if I could find a company willing to underwrite it) as he'll only be here and needing to drive for a few weeks.

Any advice would be really really gratefully received.....please!
Lead me not into temptation - I can find it perfectly well all by myself :D
