car purchase/private reg/v5???
Hello all!
I am in the process of buying a car that had a private number plate and need some advice please.
The current owner has sent the MOT and tax disc to the local DVLA office for these to be assigned the new reg no. which he has now received back. The local DVLA office have said that the reg document V5c will be issued directly from Swansea. The DVLA in Swansea say they have accepted the cherished transfer application, but it could take upto 5 weeks for the document to be issued!
Now, i am going to run a HPI check on the car anyway, but what i would like advice on is would i be foolish to buy the car anyway, pending receipt of the revised V5?
I left a deposit on 5 March, and it has taken just over a week for the new MOT and tax to come through.
Oh, and it is a private sale/purchase.
Everything seems to above board, and i am happy that there is nothing dodgy, but its just seems to be dragging on a bit too long for my liking!
Thanks for your time looking at my post, and for any opinions!! :T

No idea ...
But :hello: HELLO :hello: and welcome to MSE.com!!!0 -
It all seems fine to me. I've bought a car without a V5 before and had to send off for it. The key thing is to ensure that the person selling the car is the legal owner and has a right to sell it; this is not the same as the registred keeper. So if they have a receipt from when they bought it you should be fine to go ahead now.Can I help?0

The DVLA Office should have given the seller the small green V5/2 slip back, stamped with the new age-related registration mark allocated to the vehicle. Ask them if they have got this?
If you purchase now, this is your proof you are the owner of the vehicle if stopped, the new V5C will come back to the present owner, who should then give you the V5/2 from that document, and send the top bit off to notify disposal. Winin 6 weeks of the disposal going in you should have a new full V5C for the correct registration mark!
Complicated isn't it???
