I've just had a quote for a window roughly 120cm x 104cm one side opening on an easy clean hinge and obscure glass and it came to £366 inc vat and fitting. It seems alot to me but how should I know! can you haggle window prices? or is this the normal expected price?

I paid £200 for a window that is 1200 x 1050. This was supply only and 50/50 opening (tilt and turn) opaque glass. Fitting was an extra £120 but as I had a builder on site working he fitted it.

My boyfriend has his own double glazing company and he said the window should cost anything from £250 to £300 maximum fitted. He said £120 to get a window fitted is quite ridiculous as that is a full days rate for a carpenter and one window will take 1.5 hrs max. Usually he would charge £50 to fit one window. Some builders love to rip people off. Get some other quotes from local companies.0

My builder was only charging £15 an hour (he's a mate) so it was always going to be cheaper to get him to do it. The company that supplies the windows is a manufacturer and never used to do fitting at all so surprised when he said it was X for fitting if we wanted. I assume he sub contracts and he did say it was steep!
We've used the window manufacturers a few times and go back to him because his windows/doors are good quality. After having rubbish windows fitted when we first moved into our house in some rooms we would rather pay for a better quality. Initially our builder told us that the window that was in our bathroom was fine and just needed a new sealed unit and I was being fussy:o wanting it changed but as it was 14 years old and we were tiling around the window I thought it was worth the £200 for the new window. Plus I could have just tilt and turn as I had a a vent and T&T on previous window but as it's over the bath I couldn't reach vent without standing in the bath. Now with my new window I can reach without climbing in the bath.:T When all the tiles were off and the old window came out builder agreed it was cheap crap! I've also got nicer frosted glass:)~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I would estimate £270-£290 for that all in.
That's with a decent quality window.0
