Taking food into the US?

Hiya...

I have been traveling to US quite a few times but have never really brought any food so I'm wondering what can and can't you bring in..food wise?
I looked on the govt. websites etc. but they don't clearly say or give ya a list of examples.

Oh and my flight will be from Frankfurt to Philadelphia don't know if it matters from an EU country or not heh.

Just would like to bring my family some food goodies from Europe and don't want to buy stuff then have to toss it when I get there

Very basically you CAN bring in:

Most prepared foods/baked items, condiments, honey, spices, teas and cheese.

    You CANNOT bring in:

Anything containing meat, which also includes stock etc. Fruit and Vegetables are generally not permitted but not always excluded.

Does it matter what kind of cheese? I was perhaps thinking of bringing some goats cheese. I won't dare try to bring blue cheese..stuff smells awful lol.

I must admit I thought Dairy was a big no no.
Im sure that is what we tell passengers going into the US. this does not include chocolate, baby milk or that needed for dietary requirements is what we say over the PA on the plane

I maybe wrong tho. I do know that they are really hot on these rules at the mo both in and out of the US/UK due to the swine flu issue

Although it's not strictly about imports, the following may be relevant:
