Online web design course - refund outwith cancellation period

I have recently paid £1500 for an online web design course from Home Learning College, the course fee included Adobe Creative Suite 4 software.
However, I cannot install the software on my laptop, looking on the web it seems to be a fairly common error but I haven't found a solution.
Adobe have been as much help as a chocolate teapot and Home Learning College say it is an Adobe problem. I have been in dialogue with both of them for 4 weeks now. I feel stuck in the middle.
I've asked Home Learning College for a refund but they said as the statutory cancellation period had expired this won't give me a refund.
Please can you adise me whether this is true re statutory cancellation period and I am not entitled to a refund. Where should I go from here, it was an expensive course and I can't afford to write off £1500?
thank you

Did you read this first?

If your computer meets the spec then you should be able to claim a refund as the 'material' is not fit for purpose.
If your computer doesn't meet the spec, then sorry it is not their fault you haven't purchased a suitable computer.0
