How do I find out who own a domain?

Hi, I'm looking to purchase a domain however when I search for it, it comes up as unavailable to purchase therefore someone has purchased it. But who? I want to find their contact details and email them to see whether they are willing to sell it. When I try to access the website, it takes a long time to load and then says the usual internet explorer "The page cannot be displayed" page. So how can I email them? I want the domain!!

Search http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jhtml - works for .uk and .com domains.0

Try http://easily.co.uk/
enter the domain name you want, ignore the extension tickboxes, this will display what is available for purchase (if any) and below that the "Sorry already taken" domains. Click on who next to the domain and you will see who owns it and their contact details.0 -
A third option is to go to https://www.samspade.org which allws you to do the reverse lokup on domain names, IPs etc.
Put the name/ip etc in the first bix and click the 'do stuff' button. They promised the earth...and delivered mud. Technically though it did meet the spec.0 -
All you need to do is to use a bog standard whois tool.
http://dnsstuff.com is the best site for all your whois needs! They have hundreds of useful tools:
Whois, Ip ownership, reverse dns, email testing, spam database, tracerts, ping etc.If you're feeling down, you must be holding a duck.0 -
Try http://www.nic.uk/ for co.uk's. Insert the co.uk in the "Whois" search on the bottom right of the home page and this will tell you who owns the domain name. HTH0
