ABTA - no protection guarantee !!

I have just read tonight that if I book through an ABTA agent and they go bust I won't be protected. " ABTA is no longer protecting valuable customers funds should things go wrong". Any advice? It seems that holiday funds paid to a tour operator or travel agent is only guaranteed if they are ATOL , TTA members or agents for them. Any further news, info? Hope Martin will write something about this to enlighten us.
