But you wouldn't send the item until you had the money - in your account, cleared and available for withdrawal. What is the problem ?

Cheers - the o/p should play a long a little. It would be interesting to see what the angle is.

I dont imagine there is any world shortage of marshall amps, therefore why would someone want one shipped halfway round the world.

Amps arent light. Can you imagine the frieght costs?

OK so if it don't clear you don't send it. If it does, you do.

Please for the love of God, do not ever think that it is safe to post something to nigeria just because a payment seems to have 'cleared'.

It can take several weeks after it has cleared for the transaction to be reversed.

This is a scam. It looks like a scam, it smells like a scam, therefore it is a scam.

    Go for it! ;)

I bet they offer you more than you want for the item. Then offer to send you a cheque for more than that.

So would it be considered a scam if the enquiry was from some other far-flung country - or just Nigeria?
If you will the end, you must will the means.

Would it not make sense for the 'buyer' to have the item sourced in nigeria and delivered to the cousin from a local supplier?

But honestly, when it happens to you, you go for it. Fill your boots.

I must echo everything said above, staffie1 please read up and understand about the 'Nigerian' or 419 scam. To most of us the simple answer to the original question is 'yes this is a scam', the fact that you even need to have seconds thoughts puts you at risk.

Do a google search but make a cup of coffee first as you'll want something to steady your nerves once you start reading.

Now that we are on the subject - and seeing as you guys are so helpful - would you mind clarifying the whole reversal/chargeback..etc..etc..etc aspect of Paypal?

I'm doing a fair bit of selling on places like Gumtree and various forums at the moment. So far so good. But I always look at the bit on Paypal where it says the payment can still be reversed and I do get a little worried.

So under what circumstances can that happen? And when do you know it is safe to post an item (I'm talking generally here, like when lesser valued items in the UK)?
