A&L helpdesk number

I recently opened an Online Saver Issue 2, but I'm still waiting for the two letters with the ID and PIN so I can actually log in. I called CS using their geographical number for "overseas" customers, as I resent having to call an 0845 number which they are making money on. After 15 minutes of hanging on I finally got to a human being to talk to. However, she told me that she couldn't help me on this numer and that I had to call back on the 0845 number, as I was calling from the UK. I'm sure I'd have got through to the same person in either case. Honestly, these banks show their customers nothing but disdain. If this is the way they treat people, then I think I may have to put my money elsewhere. ICICI beckons, methinks.

Does anyone know of any other companies who won't accept calls on their "overseas" number from anyone inside the UK?

I see the A&L ISA is still given as the best buy.

However, I applied on the 1st February, and seven weeks later I still do not have an account. I took my identity into a branch more than two weeks ago for verification and faxing through. A&L subcontract out their identity checks and my postal attempt went wrong - someone from A&L is still due to call me back on that from 3 weeks ago.

The branch I went to were meant to call me back this week ...........still waiting.

It is 6 weeks since I applied to open an online saver account, that is not open yet either.

I really would not recommend opening ANY A&L accounts - I think 7 weeks, and no one calls back, is completely ridiculous - I wished I had walked into a high street building society and had earnt interest for the last 7 weeks.

I have spent ages trying to open two simple accounts - I have been to the branch and made many phone calls - therefore, I really advise people to consider if they want to open an ISA for 05/06 that A&L may not be suitable.
