Hi-

Joined npower in late august last year and have just ran comparisons tonight based on approx kwh figures (25000 for gas and 5000 leccy) and difference is scary.

Because i don't know what sign on line tariff i am on (i have spoken to them twice and they either can't or won't tell me) i just worked out manually and IGNORED npower figures in the list given to me(new customers only methinks!). By my reckoning i will be about £230 a year better off even accounting for £60 max discount i would have got. London energy online were streets ahead on energyhelpline, ukpower and uswitch based on my scottish postcode.Am i right in thinking that what you really have to watch on these comparison sites is costings given to you by your current supplier(especially if you've being with them a while) because realisticly you will be paying a lot more as an existing customer. I only noticed by comparing my bill with npowers own website and queried with them. Any views and are London energy ok to deal with??

regards
jb

The comparison sites really need to pick up on this and get it sorted. There are at least three Sign Online tariffs from npower, but for your existing supplier you can only select one which appears to be the most recent one. This will then give an inaccurate comparison.

London Energy Online price was not raised when there other prices were recently raised.

uswitch tells me that by switching from npower to npower I will save a massive £576.55. However if I use the energyhelpline.com figures I will only save £296.00. Decisions decisions, the next best is London energy which is either holding out to pick up the likes of ourselves or perhaps genuinely has a better long term contracts, being French and all.

Other than that, none worth the hassle.

    Regards,
    Francis.

    thanks for responses-

after reading various threads on here i am so glad i worked out my own costings for the year as i think these comparison sites are really dodgy if you not 100% sure what your at! as stated above i ignored npower in their results (they weren't cheapest anyway) as their figures just didn't match with mine. to avoid any discrepanies with london energy i plan to phone them and confirm the prices they are currently giving for dual fuel online deal. i can't stop price rise but i sure as hell want what energyhelpline are saying they can do it at(at least to start off with anyway!). if i am in any doubt i quickly use cooling off period and bail!

The London Energy online tariff available through the comparison sites appears to be a special one only available through them so it might be tricky to get confirmation over the phone directly.

    hi-

got my london energy contract details through post today and after checking
    i am quite happy. ;)

based on approximations 25000kwh gas and 5000kwh leccy(fairly average for 2 bed semi i think!) these are my costings-

using npowers new HIGHER figures from 1st april came to £977 (this figure includes £60 online dual fuel discount).i worked this out manually and agree with everybody posting this is best way to use comparison sites.

same figures london energy come in at £717( includes £50 dual fuel discount according to their booklet).

joined npower last august and if i had stayed this is what they would have effectively done-
for initial kwh with leccy increase is 40% and 31% for remainder
for initial kwh with gas increase is 10% and 21% for remainder

    reasons for leaving npower-

    1) their 2 price hikes from 1st january(must now be up their with the highest)
    2) poor poor customer service (still not got anyone to tell me what version of
    dual fuel i'm on!)

    and joining london energy-

    1) considerably cheaper (think even would be with an increase to online tariff)
    2) free call centre number

    regards
