If I was an employer I wouldn't give someone a job if they refused to provide a contact number. That attitude has got "I know my rights", "stirrer" and "troublemaker" written all over it. I can't imagine there's anyone left in the country nowadays who doesn't have either a landline or a mobile or both.

If you're so ill that you can't answer the phone you should not be at home on your own. If that's unavoidable, just pre-empt the call by phoning in before you take to your bed.

I was phoned at home once to tell me the central heating had broken down so to wear warm clothes! I've also been phoned while on holiday () because an emergency cropped up that only I could answer. Did I complain? Nope, it's called taking responsibility and showing commitment. Oh and I wasn't management, just a humble sales administrator.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

The first thing I did when joining this forum was to select the option to prevent signatures being displayed! I have grammar-Nazi tendencies myself, but it gets very tedious very quickly to keep seeing someone proudly demonstrating that they know the difference between "bought" and "brought" or some other elementary distinction as if it makes them some kind of genius.

It doesn't make them a genius, just better educated I guess.

Yes, I do, but the message is the same - do not give your employer your personal phone numbers.

I would not employ someone with that attitude.

When my partner was off with an injury and got telephone calls from his manager all the time he was off work, he told them that if they called and he was not at home to answer then he would be at Hospital or GP appointments.

He was called in to work what to be an informal chat, he told that he could not walk and could not travel on public transport but if they were prepared to pay for a taxi then he would go for the chat on crutches. When he got there for the informal chat, he found that they brought in a HR person from another branch and after the meeting he was forced to signed the notes they made and told him he was free to go home, his employer did ask if he needed them to call a taxi for him being on crutches, the meeting lasted an hour and when it was finished it was around 5pm very busy time to get a taxi at that time.

However the upside was after they saw that his GP was not lying by giving him medical certificates the telephone calls stopped.
