BT broadband router

I have just cancelled my broadband package with BT as of the end of May. I am now left with a BT broadband router - is this going to be of any use to me when I change to a (hopefully cheaper) new broadband provider. I only check my emails and use the net for a max of an hour a day (general surfing) - any recommendations for a provider:confused:

Yes you can use the router with a new supplier, although many of them do provide one free when you sign up (so you would have one to sell on Ebay)

As to suggesting a supplier, this section of Moneysavingexpert should help you decide

They are usually locked to bt

If you want a smooth transition, you need to ask BT for a MAC number

The BT Voyager and white homehubs can be unlocked. The voyager is pretty simple, the Homehub involves re-flashing it. The Black homehub can't yet be unlocked.

You've gone about this the wrong way-you need to find your new provider first, then obtain a MAC from BT and give it to your new provider.
This will ensure continuity of service and avoid you paying a reconnection charge.
